Canon IXUS vs ELPH vs PowerShot: Find Your Camera’s Other Name

Compatibility details are based on manufacturer documentation. How we check ↗

Some Canon compact cameras have different documented names. PowerShot SD1000 and DIGITAL IXUS 70 are one checked pair; ELPH 180 and IXUS 175 are another. Match a documented pair rather than trying to convert the model number.

Why the names can be confusing.

You may find a manual, battery listing or secondhand camera under a name that differs from the one printed on your camera. Canon’s own manuals and support tables identify specific PowerShot SD / DIGITAL IXUS and ELPH / IXUS pairs. This is useful when searching for an English manual or checking a seller’s accessory list.

“PowerShot” by itself is a broad family label. “IXUS” or “ELPH” alone is also incomplete. Keep the model’s numbers and suffixes, including IS or HS, when you search. There is no number-conversion rule in this guide: each row below comes from the exact model’s references.

This is a small selection from the catalog, not a complete history of Canon naming. Open a row for its manual links, charger, cable and memory-card details. If your exact name is not here, try the Canon camera index or search the full model on the homepage.

An alias helps find the right record; it does not make every part universal.

Compare the SD1100 IS / IXUS 80 IS with the SD1200 IS / IXUS 95 IS. Their numbers look close, but the checked records specify NB-4L and NB-6L batteries respectively. A listing that says only “Canon IXUS battery” leaves out the detail that matters.

The same caution applies when a battery family is shared. The ELPH 110 HS guide specifies a CB-2LD-family charger, while the ELPH 180 guide specifies CB-2LF / CB-2LFE. Use the documented charging setup in your exact camera guide rather than inferring a charger from a neighboring model.

“SD” in a camera name is not a memory-card promise.

PowerShot SD600 uses standard SD up to 2GB in our checked guide, without SDHC or SDXC support. PowerShot SD1000 supports SD / SDHC. Both have “SD” in their model names, but that does not establish the same card compatibility.

Read the memory-card section separately, including its capacity guidance. If you already bought a card that fails, use the old-camera SD card troubleshooting guide before replacing the camera or formatting photos you want to keep.
